Mitigate the Fear of Change
Change is an inevitable factor in any organization. The most effective leaders and managers know that managing change, adopting new technology, and implementing new processes are integral components to running a successful business.
Yet, as inevitable as change may be, it is just as inevitable that there will also be resistance.
If you are leading or managing a corporate change initiative, one of your greatest challenges will be to identify ways to address and eliminate resistance to change.
As a leader, you understand that resistance is caused by fear and that people fear what they don’t understand. In order to overcome the fear and create an environment that promotes adoption and acceptance, it’s critical that you:
- inform people about the change
- communicate the benefits, opportunities and the “what’s in it for me” question
- provide them with the skills, knowledge and tools to succeed
- address ongoing questions, concerns and needs
