Meet Abreon (continued)

What's in a name (continued)

(go back)

As we dug a little deeper, we quickly saw that our role as training and documentation service providers had been transformed into the role of problem-solvers and advisors. We also realized that we were doing a lot more than providing education and help desk services around technology initiatives.  Through the introduction of several new practice areas (including communication and elearning), we were now helping clients with a variety of “change initiatives” including changes in business process (changes driven by new policies, corporate strategies or federal regulations) as well as changes in organizational alignment (changes as a result of mergers, corporate restructuring and acquisitions).

Of course a good part of what we did (and continue to do) was still focused around helping organizations guide their people through technology driven change but our methods and approach had changed dramatically.  In other words, gone were the days of standardized classroom training (or what we around here refer to as “butts in seats” training) and with it, gone were the days of SARCOM Enterprise Education.

And so, after all this careful introspection and thoughtful examination, we did what we encourage all of our clients to do, we hired an expert to help us a select a name.  The search was tireless and at the end of the day, we just couldn’t seem to find a word or words to describe who or what we do.  So we did what many endearing parents do when they can’t seem to find the right word to describe their newest bundle of joy (and no, we didn’t go through the entire phone book page by page), we created a name that was uniquely our own with no predefined notion or pretense and set out to make it our own.  And with that Abreon was born.

Every great name needs a great story.  Around here, when asked what Abreon means, we often tell people that it’s Greek for Great People.  And while, you won’t find this definition in any reputable source (unless our marketing department has been able to sweet-talk Wikipedia); it’s not all the far off.  You see, if there is one theme that lies at the heart of who Abreon is and what we do, it would have to be People.

We have a team of 250 talented and dedicated professionals who show up each day with one overall goal or mission in mind and that is to make change (whether it’s a result of technology, business process or some other driver) easier and more manageable for an organization’s people.

The way we do that varies from day to day and project to project, sometimes it as simple as communicating to an employee that a change is coming, that they will be effected but that there are benefits for both themselves and their organization.  Other times, it’s using role-based education to teach an individual how to do their job quicker, faster, easier, better. Sometimes it is working with a corporation’s executives to develop an education and communication strategy to make sure their people are not overlooked in the process.  Sometimes, it’s being on the other end of the phone when a new system or tool isn’t working properly to coach and guide them through the problem. Regardless of the approach, the desired outcome is always the same and that is a more satisfied, productive and enabled workforce and enhanced performance for the business.

At the end of the day, the essence of Abreon is really all about enabling and empowering people to embrace and adopt change.  It’s that simple. And while our name has been chosen, we set out each day to further define and re-affirm that Abreon is Greek for Great People!
